Helping each other: a board for asking and for giving
Ask for what you need, or pass on what you no longer do. You can ask without showing your name, and no money passes through the platform.
We have opened the helping each other board: a place where members ask for what they need and pass on what they no longer do.
It has two sides, both on the same page:
- Needs help — a lift to an appointment, an official form translated, volunteers for a day, a hospital visit, or urgent support.
- Free to a good home — spare furniture, clothes, food, or an hour of your time.
Keeping both sides on one board is deliberate: split across two pages, each side has to remember to go and check the other.
Asking without being known
This is the part the board was built around. When you write a post you choose who sees your name:
- Without my name — your post appears under an alias you pick, like "a sister in Bloomington".
- Members see my name — for anybody who does not mind.
- Moderators only — the post never reaches the board at all, and moderators coordinate on your behalf.
The dignity of the person asking comes before anything else here.
How it works
- You write your request or your offer, with photos if it is something you can see.
- A moderator reads it before it appears. Nothing is published unreviewed.
- Whoever can help sends a reply that reaches you alone, not the board.
- You read the replies under "My requests" in your dashboard, and ask for the number of whoever you choose.
A volunteer's phone number never appears on the board. Only the person who asked sees it, and only when they ask for it.
Three things that will not happen
- No money will pass through the platform. We introduce people; we do not collect or transfer anything.
- Your number will not be published without your say-so.
- No post will appear without review.
If you need something, ask. There is no shame in asking, and that is what the community is for.
